Great Britain is one of the states that I love most and I always come back very willingly, also because it has so many different things to offer to a traveler who never gets bored.
Among the richest areas of fascination I have been in, there is undoubtedly Scotland with its marvelous capital Edinburgh , with the boundless territories of the Highlands and with its numerous lakes and castles.
If you want to live a true Scottish experience, one of unforgettable ones and to do at least once in your life, here are some ideas that will help you crown your dream.
Castles in Scotland to stay in
Duns Castle
About a one-hour drive from Edinburgh, namely Berwickshire (Scottish Borders), is this fabulous 14th century castle surrounded by an estate of about 500 hectares.
It has 12 rooms all different from each other, six cottages scattered around the estate, and lounges equipped with the most modern comforts that coexist perfectly with tapestries and ancient paintings.
With a 10-minute walk you reach the village of Duns where you can have fun with many outdoor activities.
Those who do not want to rent a car can reach the castle also by public transport.

Inverlochy Castle
In Fort William, in the western Highlands, and right at the foot of Britain’s highest peak (Ben Nevis), is this exquisite hotel with its own private lake.
It has 17 rooms furnished in the traditional style of country castles but equipped with all modern comforts.
Queen Victoria said she “never saw a more delightful and romantic corner” than Inverlochy Castle.
Guests can delight in the dishes prepared by chefs Albert and Micheal Roux Jr. and can have fun with the many activities organized by the property such as rafting, mountain biking or golf.
It is a three-hour drive from Edinburgh.

Barcaldine Castle
On the banks of Loch Castle, twenty minutes by car from the city of Oban and about two and a half hours from Glasgow, is this small castle dating back to 1609.
It has five rooms with private bathrooms – some of which have a stone fireplace and four-poster bed – free wi-fi, and dressing gowns for relaxing.
The atmosphere is particularly striking thanks to the large fireplace, dark wood walls and tartan fabrics.

Dalhousie Castle
It is the oldest inhabited castle in the whole of Scotland.
It is located in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian – just thirty minutes drive from Edinburgh – and lies on the banks of the South Esk River.
Dalhousie Castle also hosted Maria Stuarda “Queen of Scots” and it is possible to sleep in her room with a canopy bed.
It has 29 rooms, a spa, a falconry with eagles, a restaurant that serves both Scottish and French dishes, and the Orangery where you can enjoy a more casual dinner at the Orangery.
